Kanyenda waiting for Bullets offer, Chiukepo in dark on SA interests
South Africa-based veteran striker Esau Kanyenda says he is waiting for Big Bullets to make an offer before committing to whether he will join the Super League champions next season.
The Polokwane City striker is in his last season with the Premier Soccer League side and Bullets vice-general secretary Kelvin Moyo confirmed that talks had started between the two parties.
However, Kanyenda, when asked if he was ready to join the Super League giants, said Bullets had not yet made an offer.
“They have not yet approached me officially, so I am just waiting for that,” Kanyenda said. “We will see what next after they have made an offer.”
Bullets are hoping to entice the most capped Flames active player after reaping the fruits of their other veteran striker Msowoya.
“His experience will motivate the up-and-coming-players,” Moyo said.
There were suggestions that Kanyenda would replace Chiukepo Msowoya who is reportedly wanted by a South African club.
However, both Bullets and the player yesterday denied any interest from a foreign club.
“There is nothing official in our tray about an agent coming to Malawi to monitor Chiukepo, not to our knowledge,” Moyo said.
Chiukepo also expressed ignorance on the matter.
“Honestly, I am in the dark about all this,” Chiukepo said on Wednesday.
The striker joined the People’s Team after he was released by his Mozambican side at the beginning of the just-ended season.
He has finished the 2015 season as joint top-goal scorer with 14 goals and has since reclaimed his position at national team.
Kanyenda, on the other hand, last played for the Flames when Malawi drew one-all against Tanzania in an international friendly this year and was sidelined due to injuries.
